ISLEGAL is now looking for a (part-time) Real Estate Legal Counsel, EMEA to be based in the Amsterdam office of Equinix. The role will be primarily responsible for supporting the Real Estate function in the Netherlands, Eastern Europe and the Nordics in connection with the acquisition, development and operation of data centres. The successful candidate will work closely with and have a diagonal reporting line to the permanent Legal Counsel Real Estate EMEA who is based in London.

(part-time) Real Estate Legal Counsel, EMEA

  • Preparation, review and negotiation of all lease and acquisition agreements and other real property transactions for the Equinix EMEA (Netherlands, Nordics and Eastern Europe) business including purchases, sales, leases and long leaseholds (erfpacht), licences, management agreements, development agreements, financings and joint ventures, and other ancillary agreements
  • Advice and support on on-going legal issues arising in relation to landlord relationships across the EMEA real estate (Netherlands, Nordics and Eastern Europe) portfolio
  • Advice and support in the real estate aspects of M&A activity in EMEA (Netherlands, Nordics and Eastern Europe), including managing lease and environmental diligence and preparation of any real estate assignments and other related transaction documentation
  • Reviewing and interpreting contracts, provide legal advice and assist to resolve or manage disputes arising with respect to existing EMEA real estate (Netherlands, Nordics and Eastern Europe) portfolio
  • Understand the supply side of the Equinix business in order to propose well-reasoned legal and business solutions to challenging problems
  • Build and maintain business relationships, and manage competing workflows, appropriately prioritizing with stakeholders in Real Estate and Corporate Development and delivering results within agreed timelines
  • Liaison with external legal counsel engaged to provide legal support for the various activities referred to above, where local law input is required
  • Provide other forms of general legal support to the Equinix EMEA organization as necessary, including review and negotiation of vendor contracts, corporate legal work and other legal projects as required
  • Report on legal activity in relation to areas of responsibility to VP, Legal and Legal Counsel Real Estate EMEA


  • Masters in Dutch Law
  • At least 3-5 years’ relevant work experience gained in a real estate organization or legal department, as well as being a self-starter and a team player
  • Demonstrates detailed knowledge of structuring, negotiating and executing real estate transactions including acquisitions, disposals and leasing matters
  • Ability to research and coordinate various business-related contract issues, and think through issues and communicate clearly
  • Demonstrates ability to learn quickly, work independently and multi-tasking
  • Ability to work with tight deadlines
  • Exercises skills of good judgment in identifying issues that require escalation
  • Good people skills to work closely with individuals at all levels and in all areas of the organization, including external customers in a fast-paced environment
  • Good organizational skills, and a very strong attention to detail is required, as is strong computer skills
  • Excellent Dutch and English written and verbal communication skills required
